Argentine Judge to Review Illicit Enrichment Case Against Chief of Staff

Buenos Aires – Judge Ariel Lijo should soon authorize the request to cross-reference the financial information of the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni, within the framework of the investigation for alleged illicit enrichment. This investigation covers not only Adorni but also his wife, Julieta Bettina Angeletti. The magistrate must order the lifting of tax and banking secrecy so that public bodies can send the documentation. Meanwhile, the National Government continues to maintain that this accusation against the libertarian official “is part of a political and media operation against him,” as Adorni himself stated at the last press conference, and he reiterated his support. However, the investigation into the case continues, and Prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita has requested 12 measures of proof from Lijo, including the cross-referencing of Adorni's financial information, to determine the legality of his assets after he was denounced for having increased his assets by 500%, as well as for omitting a supposed lot in the Indio Cuá Golf Club in Exaltación de la Cruz in his sworn statement for the years 2022-2025. Furthermore, investigations will be initiated into the funds with which he bought his other properties and the justification for the trips abroad he made with his family, such as those to New York and Punta del Este, so far in his administration. The request for his complete financial history from the Office of the Anticorruption Prosecutor will allow the justice system to analyze all the economic movements he carried out from at least December 2023, with the aim of establishing whether there was a justified increase or not. In addition to the request for sworn statements since 2022, reports from the Real Estate Registry, both in the province of Buenos Aires and in the City; vehicle, vessel, and aircraft registries; and migration records were also requested.
